The Contingent Workforce

A large number of companies hire skilled staff for a limited time to augment their permanent staff. There are a number of reasons why such hires are temporary. A specialized skill may be needed for a specific project, and may not be needed after the project. A temporary need for skills may arise because of a large, time-critical project. In all these and similar circumstances, it is not worthwhile to hire permanent staff. Companies therefore look for temporary staff to fill these positions.
